hazel's first actual bath, with actual water and actual submersion!

today (four weeks old!) we gave hazel the first bath where she was actually in the water (as opposed to the sponge baths we'd been doing up until now).  she was a bit hesitant at first, but then she seemed to love it.  we got this Blooming Bath baby bath soft fuzzy sunflower thinger, and it works fantastically!

i like being partially submerged!  and being clean!!

hazel reads her first book!

ok, maybe "reads" is a bit of a stretch.... but she definitely stared at the "black and white" book pretty intently- more intently than she usually stares at things.  it turns out that babies really do like simple black and white pictures!
oh man, i could read this book all day...

time to get the little squirt a passport!

so hazel was four weeks old today, so of course, it's time to get her a passport!  we might do a trip to mexico in may, or we might not.  but either way, she's bound to be a little international traveler.  here are some highlights from the photo session...

in which we discover the moby wrap, which is an amazing device

it only took us 3 weeks to try out the moby wrap... turns out it's pretty amazing!  you can even use your hands and stuff when you're holding her!  whoa!
check it out, whoaaaa!

what up, funcle nick!

more cute hazelfaces, 1/1/14 (2.5 weeks old)

hazel and barackoli obama, the first edition!

we really like once-a-month photos that some of our friends have done with their babies (we're looking at you, niall and rae, and tracy and dane!), so here we have hazel's first installment with her pal barackoli obama.  technically she's two weeks old, not "just born", but hey, we had some other shizz going on when she was just born, so cut us some slack.....

end of december randomness...

the requisite hipster mustache pacifier- thanks aunt sarah!

that's not my beard- that's hazel's hair!  ok, my beard isn't *quite* big enough to pull it off.... see below for the real deal.
me and uncle brent in 1976.  now THAT is a beard!

our first venture out!

so, with hazel's 14th day upon us, we decided it was time to venture out.  other than a few doctor's appointments, this was the first time jana or hazel had left the house... we walked up to greenwood and got some coffee n pastries, and hazel slept through the whole thing!  this boded (bade?) well for future outings.

hangin' at herkimer coffee...

the first christmas...and her 0th birthday celebration!

hazel's due date was christmas, so we were a bit glad that she decided to show up 12 days early and spare herself a lifetime of overlooked birthdays (we hope).  we had my family and jana's family over to celebrate (my first christmas in seattle EVER- the past 15 of them have all been back in MA/NY/NJ), and we got hazel a 0th birthday cake to celebrate!

we're trying to get hazel into board games early- she kept falling asleep in between her turns, though.

some random hazel stickers i found on the internets!

hazel's awesome personalized silver baby cup!  thanks very much to aunt bea, lisa, clay, and cyrus!
marzipan birthday cake from nielsen's pastries... so delicious!!

hazel is nonplussed with her cake

still..... nonplussed

always watch your baby closely when she's handling a giant knife in her sleep

i'm not sure if this is a yawn or a scream

hmmm.... i think it was a scream.
