this baby is all smiles! (or at least somewhat smiles)

so, hazel has made the leap from "i think that might be a smile, or it might just be a face she makes when she's farting..." to "she's actually smiling!!"  she now gets in smiley moods a few times a day, and smiles at us when we smile at her, poke her cheeks and nose, make funny noises, etc.  it's a small thing, but it's unbelievably heart-melting, and jana and i both turn into gooey piles of mess any time it happens.  see for yourself below!

i'm two months old, wheeeee!!

today is hazel's two-month birthday!  to celebrate, she posed for some pics with barackoli obama.  enjoy!  tomorrow we go in for an ultrasound and 4-weeks-in-the-hips-harness checkup, so hopefully her hip joint development will be progressing nicely, and she can stop wearing the harness... and therefore ramp down the outfits that make her look like a square little bag of baby.

2-month shots make hazel.... um, totally cute and calm

today we took hazel to her 2-month appointment, at which she got her first round of immunizations.  there were 3 shots involved, plus an oral vaccine, and obviously this is not a fun thing for a tiny human such as herself.  we had heard that this could be quite a traumatic day, so i actually took a sick day from work to go to the appointment and then hang out with hazey and jana for the rest of the day, in case hazey was not in the greatest mood today.  as it turned out (and of course she might still be cranky tonight or tomorrow, so hopefully i don't have to eat these words later), hazel was a bit screamy right when the shots happened, but then she calmed down and she's pretty much been her mellow little cuteself all day since then.

hazey's first superbowl, and a bunch more cutepics

hazel's first superbowl was this past sunday... and the seahawks congratulated her by crushing the poop out of the coloradans.  since hazel is the only person in our house who owns a piece of seahawks gear, i thought we should show it off.... the hat even fits on her giant head!  thanks to my coworker sandy for the gift!

she's smiling more often, although not often enough to get too many pics yet. but jana managed to catch some of that action (sort of) this morning...  followed by some random cute whatnot from tonight.

a real smile!

this one might be gas... but it's still pretty gaddam cute!

aaaaaahhhhhh......

CHOOO!

hey aunt sarah, what's up!

just hanging out with aunt sarah number 1... (still need to get the naming convention of two aunt sarahs figured out)

aaaand, now i'm 7 weeks old!! time for my first party!

i'm six weeks old!!

ok, i'm a few days late here, but last friday, the 24th, was hazel's six week birthday!  jana and i decided to celebrate by having our first moments alone without her since before she was born!  jana's parents judy and dana graciously volunteered (or at least said yes when jana asked) to babysit, and hazel returned the favor by sleeping pretty much the whole time!  we took the opportunity to walk 10 minutes away and eat greek food, and then we even had time for a drink and dessert at the stumbling goat afterwards.  of course 2 hours into it, we were sitting there looking at pictures of hazel on our phones (quite the change from when we first left the house, and jana was so excited we practically ran down the street), so we knew it was time to go back to the babe.

here are some six-week pics for your perusal and enjoyment...

this one doesn't seem to want to rotate, so.... turn your head.

awesome leopard print ROCK onesie courtesy of aunt ali!

i know it looks like i'm crushing her... but trust me, she's faking

outie!

hazel's first vacation

last wednesday we took an overnight trip to leavenworth, wa.  for those who don't know, it's a "bavarian village" town in the cascade mountains.  they were apparently pretty down on their luck in the 60s/70s, and decided that the best way to revitalize the town was to put up bavarian-looking false fronts on all the buildings, and change the name of everything to "das sausagehaus" and the like and to dress up the town with a million christmas lights all winter.  and hey, it worked!  it doesn't hurt that it's in the middle of beautiful mountain scenery and activity-land, too.

so we wanted to test hazey's long-distance (or relatively so... about 2-2.5 hours each way) car skills, and our own ability to navigate hotels, restaurants, and bier hauses with her, so off we went.  and she did great!  she slept most of the way both directions in the car (minus a quick boobmilk stop on each trip), and everything else was pretty similar to negotiating our daily lives in seattle with her.  so it was a success!

hazel samples the leavenworth village inn's bedding.  despite her face, i think she approved.

one hand for baby, one hand for martini!

french onion soup is not the easiest one-handed dish, as it turns out...

not too many crowds around on a wednesday evening in late january...
